Dr.
Joachim Frank of Wadsworth
Center in New York is the project director for Project A. He is
an investigator at Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and a professor of
biomedical sciences at the School of Public Health. He earned his
Ph. D. in biophysics at the Technical University in Munich, and
received his postdoctoral training at Caltech, UC Berkeley, and
Cornell.
Dr. Steven Ludtke is the project director for Project B
along with Dr. Paul D. Adams. He is currently an assistant
professor and co-director of the National Center for Macromolecular
Imaging Verna and Marrs Mclean Department of Biochemistry and Molecular
Biology at Baylor College of Medicine. He earned a Ph. D. in
physics at Rice University, and did his postdoctoral studies at Baylor
College of Medicine under Dr. Wah Chiu.
Dr. Paul D. Adams is the project director of Project B along
with Dr. Steven Ludtke. He is the deputy director and staff
scientist of the Berkeley Structural Genomic Center. His research
emphasis includes the design and implementation of a new integrated
computational system, called PHENIX, for high-throughput protein
structure determination by crystallography, which is the major focus of
project B.
Dr. Pawel A. Penczek is the
project director of Project E. He earned his Ph. D. at Warsaw
University, and currently works in the biochemistry and molecular
biology department at Houston Medical School of the University of
Texas. His research interests include structure determination of
proteins and molecular assemblies, computational methods in biology and
single particle analysis, image processing, and statistics.
Dr. Wah Chiu is the
director of Core F along with Dr.
Glaeser. He is an Alvin Romansky Professor in the department of
biochemistry at Baylor College of Medicine, a professor in the
departments of cell biology, molecular physiology, biophysics, and
division of molecular virology. He is also the director of the
National Center for Macromolecular Imaging. Dr. Chiu earned his
Ph. D. in biophysics at the University of California in Berkeley.
